Time to bring on the Christmas china

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and that means it's time to get out the Christmas dishes!

You thought I was going to say go shopping, didn't you? You will not catch me shopping the day (or weekend) after Thanksgiving. Ever. It's too crazy out there.

Instead, I spend time with my family, and I usually start decorating for Christmas. (But we don't put up the tree until later because we get a live one, and it would be SO brittle by Christmas!)

So, this morning I got out all my Christmas dishes and put away my regular ones. I have a set of china in the Spode Christmas Tree pattern, and we'll use that for our everyday dishes until Christmas. It really adds to the holiday spirit when you see those Christmas trees every time you pull out a dish!

If you don't have special dishes for Christmas, I highly recommend that you get some. Obviously, I'm partial to Spode. They're high quality and can work for everyday and for nicer holiday meals. Key feature: they can go in the dishwasher and the microwave. Plus, it's a very popular pattern, so you can pick up pieces at discount stores like TJ Maxx, Tuesday Morning, or Steinmart. And big department stores like Macy's and Dillard's almost always run sales on them this time of year.

If you don't want to invest in building a collection of something nice, you could always pick up something inexpensive at Target. I have a full set of dishes, but you could just get a set of plates and cereal bowls, whatever you use most often. And if you get a solid color instead of a Christmas pattern, you could use it for other things. Some Christmas napkins with red plates would be great, and napkins are inexpensive and super-easy to store the rest of the year.

It's officially time to start feeling the holiday spirit!
